CMS: Some billing services not using providers' NPIs

Most health care providers now have National Provider Identifier (NPIs) numbers; however, some insurance claims clearinghouses and billing services apparently are not using them to file claims, according to the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). That could jeopardize Medicare payment to many practitioners in the near future, CMS warns.
