The American Optometric Association (AOA) has established a program to provide evaluation and recognition of quality ultraviolet absorbing contact lenses. Products that meet the minimum specifications established by the AOA Commission on Ophthalmic Standards are allowed to use the AOA Seal of Acceptance in product labeling and marketing. The maximum transmittance of ultraviolet radiation for a contact lens shall be less than 0.10·τV for UVA and 0.01· τV for UVB over the harmonic mean central thickness of the optical zone of the lens in order to be accepted.
