Doctor Center State Advocacy Licensure by Endorsement

Licensure by Endorsement

Based on the direction of the House of Delegates, it is official American Optometric Association (AOA) policy to support the licensure by endorsement process. The State Government Relations Center encourages the state associations and the state licensing boards to actively seek the adoption of licensure by endorsement in the true spirit of the concept.

The cornerstone of the licensure by endorsement process is the possibility for a currently licensed competent practitioner from one jurisdiction to obtain a license in another jurisdiction without taking or retaking examinations designed to evaluate entry-level competencies — which were never designed to test the qualifications of established practitioners.
