AOA Sports Vision Section (SVS) Member Benefits

Why Should I Belong?

Participation in sports and recreational activities continues to increase exponentially each year, and there has never been a greater opportunity or need for optometrists to meet the unique vision care needs of athletes.

In fact, 89-90 MILLION Americans of all ages avidly participate in at least one sport, according to the Sporting Goods Manufacturing Association.  When you join the SVS Team, you are truly making an investment in your future.

The SVS is the nation’s largest group of students and doctors of optometry, and allied sports professionals, who are dedicated to advancing the quality and delivery of sports vision care through education, eye injury prevention, and enhancement of the visual performance of athletes.

SVS Guidebooks
A series of 26 exclusive, in-depth guidebooks containing visual requirements and techniques to enhance visual skills for specific sports. The Guidebooks are now available exclusively to SVS members online and can be downloaded from this site. SVS Members: You will be prompted to enter your AOA member Web login. SVS E-Newsletter and E-News Updates
SVS news and valuable sports vision clinical and practice management information are reported quarterly in the SVS Member E-Newsletter.


SVS Member Designation on the AOA's Dr. Locator
Potential sports vision patients nationwide can easily locate you by searching for SVS members via the AOA Dr. Locator service. Your standard Dr. Locator listing will also automatically display the SVS logo.

Marketing Your Practice
Pamphlets, audio-visuals (videotapes and slides) for personal education, as well as presentation to local, civic and sports related groups are available for a reduced member fee. SVS members receive a membership certificate, suitable for framing, to display in their office. Members also receive one free Eye Emergency Kit for Athletes to share with a coach or trainer in their area, plus a member discount on orders of additional kits

Sports Vision Evaluations
Priority participation in all AOA SVS sports vision evaluations, including the AAU Junior Olympics.

Comprehensive list of Sports Vision literature - FREE with membership, available upon request only.

SVS Mentoring Program
Get one-on-one advice and guidance from experienced Sports Vision practitioners. Offered in partnership with AOA's Practice Assistance Program.
