Income from Optometry



This report focuses on the analysis of net income and annual gross billings of owner optometrists in private or corporate practice as a primary occupation in 2011. Net income for employed optometrists and independent contractor/lessees is also reported where the number of responses was large enough to allow for reliable statistical analysis.

  • Executive Summary - This free publication is available for immediate download in PDF format and provides an overall summary of key results from the 2012 survey

  • Optometry Report - This 26-page publication presents results from the 2012 survey in narrative format with the support of 31 figures to present important findings. Includes available trending data from previous surveys through 2011. This report may be purchased through the AOA Online Store, and is available for immediate download in PDF format (item RA1-O2D), on CD (item RA1-O2C), or in Print (item RA1-O2P). 

  • Detailed Analysis Report - This 92-page detailed comprehensive report employs limited narrative, and includes tabulations and graphics for further statistical analysis. Through the use of 180 tables and figures, this report utilizes cross tabulation to enable the user to monitor trends in the optometry profession specific to his or her practice characteristics, including practice type, age, years in practice, hours worked, employment situation, gender, and U.S. Census Region. This report can be purchased through the AOA Online Store, and is available for immediate download in PDF format (item RA1-D2D), on CD (item RA1-D2C), or in Print (item RA1-D2P).
